San Nicolás de los Garza, NL.- An early collapse in Xolos defense gave way to an opening goal strike from colombian right winger Luis Quinones (4th in the season), minutes later he gave an assist pass to Nicolas Lopez putting Tigres up 2-0, in the second half Lopez would get his second goal of the game putting his team up 3-0. In the final minutes of the game Xolos tried to rally back, Edgar Lopez scored the teams 1st goal at the 90’ minute mark, David Barbona followed with the 2nd in compensation time 93’, they pressed on to the final seconds with no luck for the draw resulting in Tijuana’s 1st defeat in the season.
In this matchup we saw two key players from both teams not being a factor for their offense, Fidel Martinez was contained for most of his time on the field, this is the second game he has gone scoreless after scoring four goals in three straight games, for the home team UANL Andre Gignac continues having his troubles finding the back of the net with only one goal in the Clasura.
This loss keeps Xolos tied in 4th place with San Luis for the moment, they will stay on the road to take on Rayados on February 28th, who are undefeated at home with wins over tournament leader America and Pumas, both by score 1-0, Monterrey has allowed the fewest goals (2) in the league, a defeat or tie for Tijuana would bring them down the ladder giving Monterrey their spot.
